Share Your Love Project & Shop Talk

Valentine's Day will be here soon!
There are some love-ly new cards in the shop.
For every set of Pen & Paint Valentine's cards purchased between 1/28 - 1/30 I will be donating a card to the Etsy Special Delivery: Share Your Love 2014 project.
On Valentine's Day Etsy partners with Citymeals-on-wheels and they are asking for handmade valentines to deliver with the meals. For every note card sets purchased I'll be sending a matching valentines to Etsy and they will be delivered to a person in need and add a little love to their day. I love being a part of a handmade community that gives back like this!
Etsy's deadline is 2/3 so I will have to ship all donations by 1/31, so be sure to buy your cards by 1/30.

Speaking of love...
this is now in the shop as well as these!

I hope you are having a lovely day.

Handmade with Purpose UPDATE

Look what y'all have helped raise! $154.86!
50% of each "Do Small Things with Great Love" print has been donated to the Red Cross.
With sharing about Handmade with Purpose & having some crazy sales last week Pen & Paint has sold over 20 of these prints!
Thank you so much for helping give to those in need through the Red Cross's Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts.
Remember this will continue through December!

And don't forget about all the other shops giving back!

What I'm Doing

“We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”

-Mother Teresa

Every time I read that quote I kind of choke up.
Kind of as in, I do. Like when I sit and really think about it tears come to my eyes.

This weekend we had plenty of food. We had warm clothes. We had entertainment. We did have some uncomfortable times when our kitchen sink pipes practically deteriorated and we had to replace them. Other than that, we were very comfortable.

I don't know a time I have ever been without. Even as a child when my parents may have not had lots of extra, we never went without.
I am thankful for that, and I know because of that I have the opportunity and privilege of giving to those who are suffering.

Right now so many in the northeast are going without as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The stories I have read online or heard through the news are heartbreaking. I want to help and I want to give.
Throughout November and December 2012 50% of every
"Do Small Things With Great Love" print from Pen & Paint
will go to American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts. I am working on a printable for purchase with 100% of the proceeds to be donated as well.

I have submitted my information to the Red Cross and have been approved as a donor, and I am so grateful I can give to help those in need.

We have several other shops who have chosen to do small things with great love through Handmade With Purpose. Please check out who is helping, and be sure to let us know if you want to join in. And remember you can always simply just donate to the Red Cross directly.

Oh, Look. It's my kitchen table again.

Don't be fooled, it is not the same photo from my last post.
See those four canvases, not the Africa one, but the other four?
These are for y'all. My blog readers, my customers, my friends.
Paint Me a Picture {the shop} is turning two on Friday, and I have some special little goodies to give away.
So, for all those who heart photography, coffee, tea and thread - be excited and come back!

Little Miss Holls - Holly - #2
Happy early birthday; I will email you.

And with that fantastic news I am signing OFF.
I have copied and pasted and linked and published more blog posts
(for Handmade with Purpose) than I ever imagined.
It's a good thing because we have at least 30 shops participating!
However, I am tired.
I want to love on these people and enjoy them.

Have a great remainder of the week.
Have a fantastic weekend.
I will see some of you on Monday and some of you before then.

Why autism? Why Brett?

For the month of April I am choosing to give towards Autism Therapy for my {Handmade with Purpose} contributions.

Here is the breakdown:
-proceeds from every sale of children's artwork
from my shop during April
(including a custom order I have set up)
-proceeds from a few special paintings I am making in honor of Brett (that have been started but not completed)
will go towards a local program,
towards a Language for Learning program for Brett's Resource Room

Does that make sense?
If not, just know I am giving what I can to people (smiles, nods, and winks).

Why Autism? Why Brett?
I could give statistics.
I could tell stories.
I will share these instead:

-Brett is my friend's son. He has Autism. Get to know Brett here & here.
-My husband used to do Autism Therapy with students, and it had an impact on me.
AND, last but not least
-If you are giving to others but not giving to your family, well, it's in vain.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."
- Theodore Roosevelt

I hope you will help me support Brett
and so many others

up, up & away

Holy hot air balloons is it busy around these parts.
{no there is no such thing as a holy or holey hot air balloon...
that wouldn't float}

BUT there is such a thing as the best of both worlds {^see above}
Is it a painting? Is it a print?
WELL, it's kind of both... It is a hand painted canvas panel.
You get the hand painted-ness on a thin panel you can frame.
I love it, especially in a bright, fun frame.
You can find it in the shop along with some other new paintings and cards.

Also, this painting/print/whatever-you-want-to-call-it
is one of my Handmade With Purpose items.

I have yet to do my post sharing about the charities I chose...
it's coming though.
I have just been, ummmm, busy.

Now, I have to go, Mr.C is up from his nap,
Jack has army-crawled into the closet,
and I have to finish an over-due painting someone has been ever so patiently waiting for.

Oh, PS, are you blogging barefoot tomorrow? I am.

two are better than one

Soon after I opened my shop in 2009 and found my place in this blog community
I realized there were ways to use my work to help others.
I began creating paintings with purpose
and either donated paintings to be auctioned off for a charity
or donated proceeds to certain fundraisers.
It was good to be a part of something, to give back.
Last year I actually teamed up with Rachel and helped raise money for F.I.R.E.
(a program in her community that benefited her son who has autism.)

Two are better than one, but what about three, four, five...
Let's do something together.

This year we want to do something bigger, and we need your help.
