3. "Keep your head up, keep your heart strong." His songs are so great. I need to get those words in my sketchbook sometime soon.

4. Tea towels, recipe cards... the list of things I hope to see my art on one day keeps growing. I'm trying to pace myself and remember one project at a time, but it's hard for me to do.

5. We added to our illustrated portrait wall from this shop. I love what she made for us.

6. I can't draw straight lines in the car so I color.

Recipe for Crazy { i heart art }

I'm excited to introduce y'all to Lesley of Recipe for Crazy today. I have to say I love the name of her shop and blog... sounds a bit like my life :)

Before I get started, I have to say thank you to Lindsay for asking me to join you all today! I do heart me some art and I heart Lindsay for her work and this series!

1. When did you first begin creating art?
I can't remember a time I wasn't creating art. From the time I could rub my fingers through paint, I was making something. My love for creating continued through high school were I took some advanced art classes. It was the teacher of those classes that told me about "communication arts" or what's now known as graphic design. See, I love the creative side to making art but I stink at the more "free-spirited" medium like painting or sculpting. After looking in to what graphic design was, I immediately fell in love. I loved the technical aspect to making art but I never thought I could make a living as an artist, you know, the whole starving artist mentality, but with graphic design, I saw that it was possible!

So I headed off to college and majored in graphic design and was even doing a little freelance work here and there. After graduation I worked at an incredible design firm and learned even more about graphic design and loved it even more. I love choosing the perfect paper or learning what letter forms work best with others and how colors impact the brain. It was the perfect mix of technology and craft.

After having my first baby, I left my position as a senior designer to be a stay at home mom. I started to miss design work and needed a creative outlet so after a few months, I opened an etsy shop to sell my designs and goodness, I have been so blessed by an insanely supportive community.

2. What is your favorite/most sentimental creation you have made? Why?

I actually have two. The first is this print.

It began as a gift to a friend and it was this print that reminded me how much I enjoy designing. After finishing it and having several requests for a copy, I made the leap to design more and open a shop.

The other is this one.

It's my most recent design and means so much to me. The quote comes from the book, Kisses from Katie, a book that changed my way of thinking about so many things. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it. The quote is so simple but speaks so much truth for me. It was also this print that made me realize my shop had become exactly what I dreamed it could be when I decided to open it. You can read more about it here if you want.

3. Is there a project you've always dreamed of creating? What would it be?

This is probably my most favorite question of all. I've never been a dreamer but this year has changed that so much so I can honestly say I have a huge dream of creating something one day! The dream is creating a cook book. I enjoy cooking (and eating) a lot and I would love to one day write out a book of some sort with my recipes and design it from cover to cover. It makes me excited just thinking about the possibility.

Thanks again for sharing your space with me today and here's a 20% off coupon code to use in my shop until June 20: PENANDPAINTPEEPS

Chrissie Grace { I heart art } & a GIVEAWAY

I'm excited to bring back my I heart art series
I love sharing art I admire along with introducing y'all to the artists behind the work.

Today I'd like you to meet Chrissie Grace of Chrissie Grace Art.

When did you first begin creating art?
I've considered myself an artist since I was a tiny little girl.
I remember even at four and five years of age the feelings I would have when I would create things. A feeling of contentment would come over me. I never feel more "me" than when I'm creating art.

What is your favorite/most sentimental creation you have made? Why?
That is a hard one! I would have to say right now the mural I created in my house is my favorite. I painted it at a time when I felt very stuck creatively, and the mural wasn't planned. I just walked over to the wall one afternoon and started drawing. I painted for four days until it was complete. It's the first thing you see when you walk into our home and I think it makes our guests feel like they are coming into a happy home :)

Isn't this amazing? See more details of the mural here.

Is there a project you've always dreamed of creating?
What would it be?
Yes! I would love to be commissioned to paint a mural in a children's hospital. I would love the opportunity to paint all things bright and colorful that would inspire children to feel happy and healthy.

Thank you Chrissie for sharing about your work with us!
Connect with Chrissie

As always I hope you will be inspired and encouraged by the artists you meet here!

My Sketch For Today GIVEAWAY

If you follow along on Instagram or Facebook you'll know
I like to create something I call "my sketch for today". It's fun to share things I am working on and get input from others on my drawings/paintings.
From February (when I started drawing) to December I have done at least 127 drawings! It's neat to see how my style has developed and changed. You can view all of the ones I have done in 2012 HERE

Most of them are just me drawing in my many sketchbooks, but every once and a while I'll do something fun like draw on a cup like I did for the mug swap or a plate or like the platter (shown above).

I thought it would be exciting to give back to y'all who have helped encouraged my drawing and creating throughout this year. So I found some fun pens that are just for drawing on glass or ceramic surfaces, and I'm giving away some to 5 lucky winners. It's so much fun to create and to encourage each of you do make something pretty while you can!

Enter to win below. Good luck!
Giveaway open from 12/27/12 to 12/30/12.
Winners will be chosen randomly through rafflecopter and announced on 12/31/12. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. This giveaway is not paid or sponsored by Pebeo. I purchased the pens and I am giving them away.

They are affordable and there is an activity for each day to countdown the days to Christmas from December 1st to 25th.
I'm excited about doing these with the boys. We have already been singing "Jingle Bells" daily since I pulled out Christmas decorations to use in product photos... Or as Jack shouts, "Bingle BELLS, bingle all the WAYYYYYY.

Also, there is a Silhouette giveaway going on here and you can see the countdown calendar in action :)

It's time for Holiday Cards { A GIVEAWAY }

I love sending Christmas cards.
Especially silly ones. Last year we didn't send out a card.
We had nice pictures taken of the family in plenty of time to have them made, but I just didn't take them time to send them out.
I was determined this year would be a different.
Basically I have been planning our cards since August. So imagine my excitement when my friend Katy told me she was going to be making holiday cards and selling them in her shop.

love this one
this one too

I had the privilege of helping with some of these! I drew up some things and Katy worked her magic and incorporated them into the card designs like this one with the proceeds going Hope for Sudan. Also, she has this card with proceeds going to the Joyful Life Library.

It's so hard to pick just one because I really love them all. However, I was able to narrow down a favorite. I won't show you  though because, well, then it wouldn't be a surprise when I send out our cards.

Which on is your favorite?
How would you like to win one?
Yep, Katy is giving away a card of your choice to a lucky winner!
Use the rafflecopter below and good luck!

ALSO I have comment moderation on. If you post a comment it won't appear until after I approve it :)
